Becoming My Own Leader: Embodying Queen Mindset Leadership ๐
Oct 29, 2024“You never have to ask anyone permission to lead. When you want to lead, you lead.” – Kamala Harris
In part five of this series, I’m diving into my personal journey of finding the confidence and audacity to embody Queen Mindset Leadership ๐ for myself.
This blog explores the steps that led me to see myself as a visionary, unapologetically disruptive leader and how I leaned on community and innovation along the way.

Secure Attachment: The Foundation to Self-Belief
The most underrated reward of healing is gaining a secure attachment to yourself. This makes you someone you can trust to lead you through any experience.
For me, this meant recovering a sense of self and learning to trust my internal voice, which deepened as I began seeking spirituality.
My journey initially centered on connecting to my father, yet it ultimately reconnected me to myself.
During countless long walks in nature, I began narrating my own stories, allowing space to process them as I connected with the world around me.
I sought a greater Purpose, and one day, a question surfaced: What would the world look like if everyone was healed and expressed their potential?
I wanted to contribute to this vision, though it felt like an audacious dream at the time.
Following this vision, I dove into my own curriculum, voraciously consuming books on trauma, history, psychology, spirituality, and physics.
I was searching for others who looked like me, shared my experiences, and transformed their lives into guiding lights.
Seeing them shine reminded me that I, too, could create a new paradigm of leadership.
Transforming Generational Limiting Beliefs
My first introduction to the concept of a growth mindset came from an unexpected leader I met during the long interview process I underwent searching for my Dream Job pre-sabbatical.
Although I didn’t get the job, he suggested I read Carol Dweck’s book on growth mindset.
Learning that the brain can change and build new pathways—neuroplasticity—opened my eyes to our power to shift generational patterns.
Around this time, I also started working with coaches for the first time.
Through workplace wellness programs, I was gifted coaching sessions and soon connected with my first Dominican life coach, a friend from California.
Over our many months working together, she reflected to me the limiting beliefs I had about creating my dreams (I didn't know I had limiting beliefs then). I wanted to write a book but didn't think I could. I wanted to coach but didn't think I could. I wanted healthy relationships but didn't know how to.
Confronting these limiting beliefs gave me something to work on, a challenge to rise to.
This process brought forth new beliefs and possibilities about living a fulfilling, empowered life—one in which I could lead with strength and vulnerability.
Aligning with Purpose and the Chakras: A New Way to Lead
While working through my limiting beliefs, I found myself struggling to integrate both my masculine and feminine energies in leadership. I turned to an ancient system: the chakras.
Chakras are energy centers in the body believed to affect physical, emotional, and psychological well-being. The word "chakra" comes from Sanskrit and means "wheel" or "cycle".
These seven energy centers in the body affect our physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
As a trained yoga teacher, I had a basic understanding of chakras, but when I started diving deeper, I realized how these energy centers could guide us toward self-liberation and help us manifest our visions.
Chakras became an organizing force in Queen Mindset Leadership ๐, unifying mind, body, heart, and spirit. When balanced, chakras allow us to feel grounded, emotionally stable, confident, compassionate, expressive, visionary, and spiritually connected.
This approach offered a framework for grounding myself in a purpose-driven leadership style that could empower both myself and my community. THIS WAS IT.
Confidence in Action: Building a Business, Speaking, & Writing
By the time I began formally building out Queen Mindset Leadership ๐ as a brand, investing in myself had become an obsession (and a symptom of my rising impostor syndrome).
I joined every program I could find: a transition course from employee to entrepreneur, speaking and writing accelerators, masterclasses on branding and community building, and even decolonizing my yoga mentorship. I sought out everything from positive mindset programs to niche business coaching.
These investments in myself served as catalysts, driving me to start speaking about my journey, even before I’d finalized my niche. My early speeches connected me with others who shared my vision, and in those conversations, I spoke of Queen Mindset Leadership ๐ as though it had always existed.
I embraced imperfect action and learned as I went along.
That audacity landed me my first client, a Book and Editing Coach with whom I exchanged services, and led to facilitating group sessions, like Jefas Healing Juntas.
These experiences confirmed that Queen Mindset Leadership ๐ was resonating with others, strengthening my confidence and dedication to the work.
AI as a Partner in Confidence-Building
One of the unexpected allies in my confidence journey has been AI.
Initially, I discovered AI tools for business strategy and content development, but soon, AI became an invaluable partner for reflection and brainstorming. I used it to explore why so many women of color, myself included, hold back from leadership, and to refine how I articulated Queen Mindset Leadership ๐.
For me, AI was like having a collaborative thought partner, synthesizing ideas I’d collected from the hundreds of books I read. Using AI, I was able to visualize models for Queen Mindset Leadership ๐ and create affirmations that helped me transcend my own limiting beliefs about everything.
I know there’s debate around AI, but for me, it’s been empowering, enlightening, and life-changing.
AI gave me the tools to map out and streamline a brand built around purpose and empowerment.
Its input gave me clarity on how to lead with the strength and confidence required to bring Queen Mindset Leadership ๐ to life in every speech, post, and way of expressing, my next focous.
